Free Your Mind ’09

For Free Your Mind Festival 2009 I created illustrations which I also used in animations, merchandise and other festival materials such as banners.

Birth card

Cause the parents didn’t know if it was going to be a boy or a girl until birth, I created designs for both options. The final outcome was a baby boy: Jirre.

Headache

Due to a concussion I needed to give my brain some rest. I wasn’t allowed to focus so no screens or reading. Which was a huge challenge and what to do? I drew, but in short time frames only.

In this drawing you can see a huge reptile in the centre and it refers to the reptilian brain, the oldest of the three, which controls the body’s vital functions such as heart rate, breathing, body temperature and balance.

Breakfest Festival 2012

Characters of the print Disco Fever were printed in black outlines and were colored by the visitors of Breakfest Festival in Landgraaf. With Frits as the main character. Special thanks to Edward van Kempen who helped and guided the visitors of Breakfest.

Tumi

One of the most sold souvenirs in Peru was Tumi. After visiting the well-preserved mummy, Juanita in the museum of Andean Sanctuaries in Arequipa, I discovered the actual meaning of Tumi. The Inca’s used Tumi as an ‘medical’ instrument to hit the skull of the children to kill them and to offer and mummify them to the gods. Inspired by this horrible story but yet so beautiful creation, I drew my own Tumi. Read more about Tumi or Mummy Juanita

Exhibition

My first solo exhibition in Amsterdam! It included digital prints and special edition printed shirts.

Oh oh Puglia

My eye was caught by the facades in the south of Italy, Lecce. Many proud arcs and geometric framed windows and balconies.

Nu descendant un escalier

Inspired by Marcel Duchamps ‘Descendant un escalier’ in which he captured the movement of a person descending stairs, I did the contrary. Instead of showing the movement of one person/ character, I show several characters frozen in the movement.

Birth card

A birth card for Lone being no 5. Their family name is ‘de Haas’, which means ‘hare’. So many hare all together.
